MASON — Scott Shattuck is selected for a Mason Area Chamber of Commerce 2012 Special Recognition award in appreciation for his leadership and hard work to share with others the military heritage of the Mason area community.

A graduate of Mason High School in the Class of 1979, Scott is head coach of Mason’s girls’ basketball team.

He involves many of his students at Mason Middle School in Civil War reenactments at so many of our local parades and ceremonies. Shattuck directs a Civil War Drum & Fife Corp that receives a yearly $1,000 scholarship from American Legion Post #148 in Mason.

He also assists our veterans groups in recognizing the contributions of local heroes past and present and enlightens visitors through displays at his private military history museum in Mason.

The museum is open by appointment. He has collected records on all the area’s Civil War soldiers, which has served the needs for our local monuments to their memory and which will assist in celebrating their accomplishments during Mason’s coming sesquicentennial in 2015.

Shattuck has served on the cemetery board and on the Ingham County Historical Commission, appointed by the board of commissioners.

The commission studies and advises the board with respect to all matters pertaining to history. It develops, promotes, conducts and participates in historical projects.
