MASON — The Mason Public Schools Foundation was selected for a Mason Area Chamber of Commerce 2012 Special Recognition award due to their continuing support of the teachers and students in Mason Public Schools.
The Foundation is heavily involved each year in fundraising for equipment and other classroom needs. Proceeds from the annual Mason State Bank 5K Race go to Foundation causes, which have included classroom technology enhancements.
The Mason Public Schools Foundation exists to enhance curricula and education experiences for Mason's youth.
The Foundation recognizes that the quality of education available to students is an essential factor in maintaining a strong community and developing productive, successful citizens. Since its inception in 1984, it has funded hundreds of grants to support all local schools.
The foundation was created by community leaders for the sole benefit of our students. As an independent, non-profit organization, the Foundation serves as a conduit for direct community contributions.
Among the activities receiving Foundation support are be those which augment supplies and equipment available to students, encourage innovative teaching, promote community awareness of important educational issues, recognize the achievements of students, and enable the sharing of talents and resources between school and community.
The Foundation's governing body is independent of the Mason Board of Education. However, the Foundation's Board of Directors cooperates with the school district to maximize the Foundation’s benefit to youth.
The Foundation Board is comprised of volunteer members from the community, along with the Superintendent of Schools and a member of the Board of Education.
People in the Mason area know about the long running fund-raising relationship with the Mason State Bank 5K race each year.
In addition, the Foundation hosts Mason Pizza Day on the first Wednesday of every month. Pizzerias donated a dollar to the Foundation for each pizza sold. The fund-raiser this year is the Mason Madness Extravaganza on March 24 also raises money for the Foundation.
Last year the Foundation donated a total of $45,000.00 to the school district to aid in the purchase of cutting edge classroom technology through the Mason Technology Infusion Project (MTIP).
