MASON - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close the Kipp Road bridge over U.S. 127 on April 11 for reconstruction until early September.
During construction, the entrance and exit ramps at the interchange will remain open but Kipp Road will be closed directly over the highway.
When the bridge is closed, eastbound traffic on Kipp will be directed south on U.S. 127 to the Barnes Road exit, then north on U.S. 127 back to Kipp. Westbound Kipp traffic will be directed north on U.S. 127 to the Cedar Street exit, then south on U.S. 127 back to Kipp.
A weekend closure of U.S. 127 to remove the existing structure is currently scheduled for the following weekend, April 15-17.
During this closure, motorists should expect both northbound and southbound U.S. 127 to be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Traffic will be maintained using the entrance and exit ramps at the interchange. Another weekend closure also may be needed for beam setting at the new bridge. Otherwise, only shoulder closures will be in effect on U. S. 127 during this project.
The entire project is expected to wrap up by the Labor Day holiday weekend.
