MASON — The 24-year-old man who officials say assaulted his father and his father’s girlfriend and tried to set their house on fire has been arrested, according to the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect was arrested around noon in the 1800 block of Edgar Road in Aurelius Township, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. He is being held at the Ingham County Jail. More details about the man will be released once he has been arraigned in 55th District Court, the news release said.

The incident happened early this morning in the 1800 block of Edgar Road, officials said.

According a news release, the 24-year-old man poured gasoline around the house and set gasoline on fire in the garage. When deputies arrived, the fire already had been extinguished and the suspect had fled.

The fire was contained to the garage, and there was no damage, the news release said.

After a search that lasted several hours that included police dogs and helicopters, the suspect was not located.

  1. As many victims of fire damage know, the aftermath of a home fire is an exhausting mess of debris, smoke damage and soot. Walls are stained black, floors are covered in soot, and ceilings are black. The lingering smell of smoke can be overwhelming and debris can be dangerous to navigate. These leftover remnants are not only hazardous, but are also a terrible reminder of a time that victims most likely would prefer to forget. Fire damage cleanup is a difficult task that is best left to professionals.
