MASON — A Mason retirement facility that opened two and a half years ago has already doubled in size and is planning more growth in the future.

Green Acres, 1025 E. Ash St., now has 40 rooms at its facility after finishing construction in March. Administrator Perri Rendon said the growth is driven by demand from the community.

She said Green Acres’ success comes from being flexible while being a great place to live.

“We take care of people from the fairly independent that can still drive in the community, all the way through hospice care,” Rendon said. “Our belief is for people to be able to age in the same place.”

The building’s unique design includes a “town square” hallway that hass a barber shop, cafe, ice cream parlor and pharmacy. Rendon said residents like the personal living spaces that include kitchenettes.

For 95-year-old Green Acres resident Margie Snook, her home is a wonderful place because of the employees.

“The people here are so nice,” she said. “They are always smiling and will do anything for you.”

Snook’s daughter Mary Anne McWhirter said loves that fact there is such a nice place for her mom that is so close by.

“This place is fantastic,” McWhirter said. “I like being close to her but I like knowing that if something happens they have a great staff here to give me peace of mind.”

Co-owner Paul Wyman said Green Acres is also growing because of its affordability.

“We cost $3-5,000 per month while most nursing homes cost $5-8,000,” Wyman said. “And we offer the same type of service.”

Rendon said along with more construction within a year, Green Acres is looking to open a wing that will be specific to those facing Alzheimer’s or Dementia.

“We also are capable of respite care,” she said.

Respite is a type of care that is for someone that needs to go away for a few days and needs the facility to take care of their loved one while they are gone.

“Also, Green Acres can be for someone that needs some care after a hospital stay until they are strong enough to go home and be on their own,” Rendon said.
