MASON - The second annual Sun Dried Music Festival was a hit, according to organizers.
The county courthouse lawn was filled with concert goers enjoying great music in great weather on Aug. 27.
"We said from the start if we are going to do something like this we are going to do it right," Mason Mayor Leon Clark said.
In its second year, the festival expanded to include more vendors, more bands and even a children's play area complete with inflatables.
Clark said the day-long festival went off without a hitch despite the busier schedule - because of the increase in the number of bands the time in between acts was shortened.
"That didn't make it easy for pre-show sound checks," Clark said.
"But I don't think the crowd noticed."
Clark said the professional style stage impressed the musicians, and the amount of people that attended impressed business owners.
"One bar owner said she made enough in one night to pay the bills for a month," he said.
While no official numbers are in, Clark is confident the free concert festival expenses were covered.
He said the goal is to keep the music local. He said many have asked about bringing national acts.
"I inquired about 'Verve Pipe,' which has a local musician included and the $7,000 an hour cost was too much," he said.
Clark said plans for the future include a possible second stage for micro-local acts.
"The hardest part is deciding which band will perform," Clark said.
"But that is a nice problem to have."
"This is really cool," said Patty Miller, as she and her husband Mike watched the concert from the courthouse steps.
"I'm from San Antonio and we have similar festivals.
I'm glad I came to visit my sister this weekend."
