Mason Courthouse Pub and Grill to double in size

MASON -- One of Mason's popular pubs has doubled in size and is close to opening the expansion soon.

"We are 99 percent there," Mason Courthouse Pub and Grill Co-owner Joe Ghinelli said. "A few more adjustments to clear inspections and we will be seating people in there."

Ghinelli said bringing the 150-year old building up to code wasn't easy, but after buying the property next door and then opening a connection between the two inside the pub, it adds 1,300 square feet.

"It's a full expansion," he said. "Larger eating area, dance floor, and pool table." He said he is excited about making the kitchen are five times larger and expanding the menu to add at least 15 more items.

"We are going to roll them out gradually," he said. "We'll still have our favorites."

The pub has been owned by life-long Mason residents Ghinelli and Cliff Walkington for three years this October.

Ghinelli said the expansion is a way to meet a need for larger groups.

"Sometimes we would be so crowded that larger groups would look in and have to go somewhere else," he said. "That bothered me."

The expansion will help the pub carry 146 people instead of the previous 55 maximum seating capacity.
