LANSING, MI (WKAR) - Listen to this Story
Reapportionment this year could mean a smaller Ingham County Board of Commissioners.
WKAR's Scott Pohl reports.
The five-member committee redrawing districts for future Ingham County Board of Commissioners districts has just one Republican.
Linda Lee Tarver chairs the GOP in the county. She says voters want smaller government.
"What is a good representation?" asks Tarver. "The law gives us five, up to twenty-some commissioners. Do we need that many?"
County Clerk Mike Bryanton is chairing the committee drawing the districts. He says he expects to look at maps for 14 or 15 seats rather than the current 16.
Ingham County Commissioners are paid a little more than $11,000 a year.
The committee will have 60 days to redraw the maps after census information arrives in the next week or two.
