MASON - Mason Board of Education President Barb Hensinger has resigned from the board effective April 1.
"My husband, Rich, retired and we have decided it was time," Hensinger said in a March 9 e-mail.
The couple will relocate to Florida.
Hensinger also will resign as executive director of the Ingham County Fair effective March 25.
At the March 8 school board meeting, Hensinger made her official announcement, acknowledging that Michigan schools have challenges ahead. However, she expressed confidence the Mason district would find solutions.
Board Vice President Ralph Beebe suggested the board conduct a work session soon to discuss replacing Hensinger.
Superintendent Mark Dillingham said he appreciated Hensinger's ability to make decisions that weren't always popular.
"I think what I like most about Barb is her willingness to do out-of-the-box thinking," Dillingham said.
Hensinger first was elected to the school board in 2000. Her term is to expire in 2014.
