Planning for Mason’s Sesquicentennial to begin with General Interest Meeting
Volunteers also sought for the Mason 150 Steering Committee
MASON, MI – The Mason Historic District Commission will be holding a general interest meeting to discuss ideas and solicit volunteers for the Mason Sesquicentennial Celebration in 2015. Residents, business leaders, and other members of the community are invited to come share their thoughts and ideas regarding this milestone occasion.
“We are really excited to celebrate 150 years as a city. 2015 will be a historic year and we want it to be very special and memorable for the community.” Said Mason City Councilmember Barb Tornholm. “It is very important to get residents and businesses involved at the early stages so that we can truly have a community-wide effort in planning the sesquicentennial.”
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from 6:30-8:00pm at Mason City Hall. Light refreshments will be provided.
“The sesquicentennial is a great opportunity to celebrate our community and we wanted to start out by having a forum where people can share their ideas and volunteer to help organize events.” Remarked Marlon Brown, Historic District Commission Vice-Chairman. “The Historic District Commission has been brainstorming and conducting some preliminary research but we really want the community to be involved with the planning process.”
The meeting will focus on establishing goals and a theme for the sesquicentennial. Attendees will also be asked to propose events and activities that highlight the celebration. In addition to this discussion, volunteers are being sought for the Mason 150 Steering Committee, and other subcommittees, which will spearhead the organizational effort. Individuals will be needed to assist with a range of areas including fundraising, event planning, and publicity.
If anyone cannot attend the interest meeting, but still desires to volunteer for the steering committee, please contact Mr. David Haywood via email at davidh@mason.mi.us. Additional information about the meeting is also available at http://www.mason.mi.us and on the Mason 150 Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/Mason150.
